How to Choose your Ideal Cricket Bat

Monday, August 8th, 2011

In most sports, your choice of equipment can make or break your game. For optimum performance, it is important to consider a range of factors that will ultimately improve results. With the cricket season upon us once again, making the right choice when purchasing your cricket bats London will ensure you have a campaign to remember.

If your performances in front of the wickets have been faltering as of late no matter how hard you train, maybe you should consider upgrading your cricket bat.  One professional sporting outlet with over 30 years experience has over 1000 high quality bats for you to choose from. With the perfect hand picked cricket bats, you can get back to winning ways today.

The family-run company pride themselves on supplying only the finest bats that meet their strict and thorough specification guidelines. After all, for the best performance, using the very best bat available is a must.

Before rushing into a purchase, there are two questions to consider that will guarantee you choose the perfect bat to suit your personal style.

What size bat best suits me?

•    It is important to select a bat that suits your height. There are no actual technical specifications because it is all dependent on your stance when protecting the wickets. In-store specialists can advise you but ultimately you will know what will feel right for you.

What is the ideal cricket bat weight?

•    Arguably the weight of your cricket bat is more important than the size – although both are of extreme importance to ensure you perform to the best of your abilities. Lighter bats obviously offer easier manoeuvring and so would be strongly advised. Again, in-store specialists can advise you, but it is important that you choose a bat that you are comfortable with.

If you are reluctant to replace your old loyal cricket bat, the professional suppliers can offer you their time-efficient and reliable refurbishing and repairs service. They promise to return your bat to tip-top condition ready for you to use in your next match.

If your team have a busy away fixture list this season, why not avoid the stress of driving? Consider mini coach hire London for a reliable service guaranteed to leave your team fully focused on winning.

The dedicated suppliers of cricket bats London also have an impressive array of other cricket essentials including bags, balls, gloves, body protection, clothing and helmets as well as many items specifically designed for aspiring juniors. So, why not improve your game today by visiting a team of specialists who you can trust? They look forward to seeing you.

How Cricket Bats are Made

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

With the county cricket season now well underway and the summer internationals on the horizon, the amount of cricket in England is at its highest at present. This will lead to an increased number of people either playing on the local parks with friends or joining a local team to enjoy the sport all summer long. Being fully equipped for the game is essential and as a batsman there is arguably nothing more important than the bat you use and thanks to an established stockist, you have access to some of the best made cricket bats around.

To really get the most out of the game it is always worthwhile taking in the final details and questioning the way in which a cricket bat is made is certainly one of these. Once armed with this knowledge, you are guaranteed to be more confident when you step out into the middle with your bat held under your arm in preparation to score runs.

There are various processes involved in making the cricket bats that you can purchase from a specialist such as this. The first of which is the decision on which wood will be used. Traditionally many bats are made from willow due to its tough and resolute finish which enables the ball to be struck hard with very little risk of causing damage to the wood itself.

The wood is shaped to have a flat striking face with a ridge on the back that helps to concentrate the majority of the wood in the centre of the bat where the ball should ideally be hit. The wood is then treated with linseed oil to further protect it from damage.

Once the blade of the bat has been successfully shaped it is then connected to a long cylindrical piece of cane wood which acts as the handle. The two pieces of wood are connected by means of a splice that securely fits them together.

The basis for the bat is now in place as both the blade and handle are ready for use. The edges of the blade closest to the handle are known as the shoulders of the bat with the bottom of the blade being known as the toe. The final touches are completed with the introduction of a plastic grip to the handle to make it more comfortable to hold when batting out in the middle.

This process has been completed to the very highest standard for each and every one of the cricket bats available from this particular sporting goods specialist. With this in mind, no matter where you play your cricket this summer, you are assured of doing so with a quality bat in hand.

Friday, May 6th, 2011

With the overwhelming success of the recent Cricket World Cup and its potential follow on implications for our county game, the popularity of cricket at present is at an all time high. Despite England’s disappointing performance during the tournament, cricket lovers in this country are still looking to enter into the game at a local level and in order to do this will require the correct equipment. With one established retailer supplying a number of top of the range cricket bats, taking your first step into the game is considerably easier.

For any want-to-be batsman, finding a cricket bat that is suitable in its size and weight in relation to you is essential for performance. The wrong bat can have severe consequences and leave you in a perilous position every time you step out to the crease.

With an array of different bats available to you through an established sporting retailer, you can take the time to find a bat that is custom made to suit your build and style of play. With a selection of heavier bats for the big hitters and lightweight designs for those batsmen who play more precision cricket, there is sure to be a suitable bat to match your batting style when facing an opposition bowler.

The size of the bat also plays a pivotal role in determining how well you could potentially perform for your team. Bats are available with either short or long handles so you can choose which will be most comfortable for you and more importantly assist you in scoring runs off every ball you face. With a bat that is the wrong height you could find yourself reaching out to connect with a delivery if your bat is too small or having little control over one that is too big for you.

A professional knocking in service allows you to immediately use your bat and avoids having to undertake the time consuming process yourself. This is essential in priming your bat ready for use and will help you to gain a sweeter connection when bat hits ball.

Various bats available from this retailer are endorsed by professional English cricket stars which is aimed at proving their quality to every buyer. Similar to any profession, if you can feel confident in the equipment you are using, the better chance you have of performing to the highest standard on a regular basis.

Purchasing a custom made bat that is designed to improve your overall play can be a difficult task. However, with the assistance of an experienced retailer who stocks a selection of cricket bats, you are assured of finding the ideal bat to suit your game.

English Willow Cricket Bats

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

As a cricketer, and in particularly a batsman, one of the most important pieces of kit is your cricket bat. Whether you are a big hitter or a stroke player you need to ensure that you have a bat that will work best for your style of play. One of the most traditional is the English willow cricket bats and here at Fordham Sports, we can supply you with the ideal bat to suit you.

We are well aware that buying your new cricket bat can be confusing as you may not be aware of exactly what you are looking for. At Fordham Sports, our knowledgeable staff can answer any questions you may have and offer you advice as to which bat will best suit your style of play. The bats made from English willow are a popular choice amongst professionals and amateurs as they are a reliable bat suitable for any player’s ability.

Once you have gained a feel for an English willow bat and had a few fresh air practice strokes we can then help you to choose a size that is suitable for you. Having an incorrect sized bat is seriously going to hamper your ability to perform to your maximum level. A bat that is too large will leave you struggling for movement and a bat that is too short is likely to leave you stretching for balls you would have otherwise stroked to the boundary.

When it comes to the supply of cricket bats here at Fordham Sports we have the experience, knowledge and ability to find the ideal bat for you to get out into the middle and score valuable runs for your team. For any further information on our English willow cricket bats feel free to visit in store or get in touch via the enquiry form on the ‘Contact Us’ page of our website.

Picking the Right Cricket Bat

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

If you’re serious about playing cricket, and playing well, it’s absolutely essential that you choose the right cricket bat. Buying the wrong type, style or size of bat could lead to poor performance and what’s worse – embarrassment on the field! Here at Fordham Sports we can’t guarantee you won’t go out for a golden duck if you don’t practice, but we can help you pick the right bat. With the help of our 25 years’ worth of experience selling cricket bats there’s every chance you’ll be soaking up the sun at Lord’s in no time.

Our store has over 2000 cricket bats, each and every one of which is available for sale now; most can even be purchased online and delivered to your home. But how should you go about picking the right bat?

Design

While most look similar at first glance, each and every one of our handpicked bats is unique. Different types of bats suit different playing styles, so the first thing to do is to analyse your game to find out whether you’re a big hitter, stroke player or mixture of the two. Our team is passionate about the game and will be able to tell you which bats are suited to your playing style in order to improve performance on the field.

Size

The second main thing to consider is size. Oversized bats will drag and slow you down, while smaller bats may not be able to accommodate your power.

To check that a bat is right for you, assume your batting stance and rest the toe of the bat on the outside of your rear foot. In this position the handle of the bat should rest easily next to your box on the inside groin of your front leg. The key is to examine cricket bats carefully and only make a purchase when you’re completely satisfied.
