Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

To enjoy a garden or grounds which always look impressive, it is important to have a thorough routine of garden maintenance throughout the year. Once summer has passed, it is time to begin considering an autumn garden maintenance programme to keep your grounds looking great as the leaves begin to turn. Westland Estates can provide an efficient maintenance service to take care of your grounds, so when you require garden maintenance, look no further than our specialist team.

After enjoying your garden in full bloom over the summer, autumn is the time to tidy up your grounds and prepare for the colder weather which is fast-approaching. As your trees and plants put on a final show of colour, Westland Estates can help you to make the most of the last days before winter. We have a wide range of experience helping a variety of commercial clients to achieve a garden which complements their brand image and offers their visitors a relaxing place to while away a lunch hour or two.

Let us take care of your lawn with grass cutting and weeding which can keep your grass growing green and healthy throughout the year. We also use our garden equipment to cut back any hedges which have become overgrown during the summer, and can prune your trees to remove any dead wood.

Brightly coloured trees are a highlight of autumn, but once the leaves fall this can cause your grounds to look untidy and can make paths unsafe. Westland Estates can clear any leaves and debris to leave you with a clear lawn, and when the autumn turns to winter we can help remove snow and ice which could disrupt your business.

By taking good care of your plants and trees during the autumn months, your garden will be ready to endure a long winter before bursting back into bloom once the spring arrives. For a comprehensive autumn garden maintenance service which can maintain the appearance of your property’s exterior as the days get shorter, make sure you contact the experts here at Westland Estates.

Process of Fitting Decking in the Garden

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Decking is fantastic. The natural and organic design fits ideally into any garden, without appearing artificial. The smoothness of the wood is hard wearing and with the right treatment and materials a wooden decking area can last indefinitely. If you believe that you and your garden would benefit from wooden decking Solihull, then you may be surprised to know that you can do it yourself. By sourcing high grade pressure preserved wood from us at Davies Timber you will be able to construct decking in your garden that will last for years.

Step One: Preparation

First, you need to clear the area completely of any vegetation. Once you have cleared the area, you then need to lay out your wooden joists to get a general idea of the size, and if you have cleared enough space.

Step Two: Adding Support

Those who do not have concrete or paving in their garden will need new concrete pads. This is what your joists are laid upon, and therefore need to be level and secure. The 12” square hole needs to be dug 18” deep. A spirit level needs to be used throughout this process to ensure that the concrete pads are completely level.

Step Three: Weed Prevention

To prevent weeds from growing up beneath your decking, you need to lay a weed proof membrane down. This will prevent any vegetation from growing and ensure the longevity of your decking.

Step Four: Construction

Once you have positioned and secured your joists you should begin laying your decking at a right angle to your joists. You should ensure that a 5mm gap is left between each decking plank for expansion.

If you want wooden decking in your garden, then why not do it yourself. With high grade timber sourced from us at Davies Timber you can construct garden decking Solihull which could last for years. If you would like more information regarding the materials which we stock, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Grass Turf Suppliers Windsor

Monday, March 14th, 2011

As with fashion, gardening goes through trends which are heavily influenced by gardening programmes that fill our television screens during the spring and autumn months. Some of the trends that we have seen in recent years have included raised decking, gardens being split into many segments that provide a treat for all senses; and then the trend of removing the grass and pebbling or paving areas. However, although trends come and go, turf remains popular year in year out, and we here at Royce Turf couldn’t be happier, as we’re quality turf suppliers Windsor.

Everyone remembers the hot summers which were spent playing in the garden as a child, perhaps we spent the hours treating the grass as our very own football pitch, or having picnics with friends. However, as gardening trends became more varied over time, the grass might have been removed and replaced with intricate designs of gravel paths and flowerbeds.

However many trends have now reverted back to using large areas of grass, and homeowners will be looking for the best turf around. As turf suppliers Windsor, here at Royce Turf we’re on hand to supply it.

As specialists in supplying the best turf for you, here at Royce Turf we have a range of turfs, each of which provides a different look and texture. These include:

•    Regal – hardwearing, roots quickly and offers a stunning shade of green to any garden.

•    Royal – low maintenance and can continue to thrive in shady areas.

•    Regency – as with the Royal, can thrive in shady areas. The regency is also able to cope in wet conditions.

Along with supplying the above types of turf which are suitable for domestic use, as turf suppliers Windsor we also supply grass turf suitable for the golf greens. Whichever surroundings you have, we’re bound to have a turf which will go perfectly in your garden. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact us.

Whether to Buy or Seed Turf

Monday, March 14th, 2011

For those green-fingered ones amongst us, the wet winter months we’ve endured can be a frustrating time as it’s harder to get out to prune the trees and keep on top of the flowerbeds. It’s also likely that during the wet weather your once luscious lawn will have bore the brunt and became damaged in one way or another. If this is the case, then digging the current lawn up and replacing it could be the ideal solution – especially as it will give you the opportunity to reshape your garden to a new design. But which method do you choose – seeding the lawn or buying pre-grown turf Richmond?

Here at Royce Turf, we’re specialists in providing quality turf which is suitable for various locations and weather conditions. However, we also appreciate the satisfactory feeling you get when you sow your own seeds, and watch the lawn take shape. So we’ve compiled this simple guide to the benefits of each.

Seed:

There’s no denying that sowing a lawn via seed is a more time consuming method – depending on the weather, it’ll take roughly a week for the shoots to show, however the lawn won’t be ready for a couple of months. Sowing seed will also require more groundwork preparation.

Seed is a cheaper alternative to laying a lawn and it can be laid in harsh conditions and in those awkward areas, where turf can’t, making it ideal for small areas of repair.

Turf:

Unlike seed, turf is a quick way to get the perfect lawn. Once it’s been laid, the edges trimmed and watered, it’s ready for use – and all of this can be done within an afternoon. Laying turf from us at Royce Turf also requires little groundwork and can be done within any weather conditions, making it a perfect choice for this time of year.

Here at Royce Turf, we have a wide range of turf Richmond which is ideal if you want to ensure that your lawn is ready from the moment that spring arrives. Our turf is available for either collection or delivery and promises to be the ideal finishing touch to any garden.

Operating a Hire Chipper Safely

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

With spring just around the corner many homeowners who are fortunate enough to have their own garden will be looking to getting outside to carry out vital garden maintenance; whilst many councils will also be sending their garden teams out to prepare parks ready for the first warm days of spring. This spring preparation is likely to include the pruning of rose bushes, the shaping of trees and flowerbeds, along with cleaning up the debris that the harsh winter weather brought with it. As part of the garden clean-up, it’s likely you will require chipper hire Oxford. But before you go ahead and hire the machinery, it’s important to ensure you understand how to operate it safely.

At Helpful Hirings, we stock machinery from the best known brands in the industry, including a range of Timberwolf chippers. Whether you’re planning to use the 150mm trailer mounted diesel chipper or the 75mm petrol shredder chipper available from us here at Helpful Hirings, it’s important that prior to using the machinery you become accustomed to the equipment and in particular that you’re aware of the placement of the stop bars.

Once you’ve checked the placement of the stop bars, it’s important that, as the operator, you check the chipper to ensure that the guards aren’t missing or damaged, the hood containing the chipper’s knives is securely closed and the cutting chamber is free of any foreign objects, such as wood from a previous job.

Along with equipment checks, it’s also important to ensure that the area you’re working in is properly secured and that you’re wearing the right clothing.

You should never wear any jewellery or loose clothing as this can get caught in moving parts, which in turn could cause serious injury. Nor should you wear shorts – no matter how hot it may be outside – as these don’t provide adequate protection for your legs.

Instead, you should ensure that you have the relevant protective gear:

•    eye protection – goggles,

•    hard hat – to protect your head from any flying debris,

•    gloves (without loose cuffs),

•    long trousers (without loose cuffs)

Following these few simple guidelines will help ensure that when you take advantage of the chipper hire Oxford we offer here at Helpful Hirings, you and your gardening team are well protected and kept safe.

Tree Mulchers and Chipper Hire in Oxford

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Are you giving your garden a much needed make-over/overhaul, or just giving it a quick spring clean? Here at Helpful Hirings’ we have the ideal machinery to help take the hard work out of gardening.  We have a variety of shredders and chipper hire Oxford for your garden. Whether you have been eyeing up that enormous shrub at the bottom of your garden, that over grown conifer tree, or just those hydrangeas that need some light pruning, we have the right equipment for you.

If you need to cut up large pieces of garden waste a chipper is the ideal machine. It can cut garden waste that is up to 75mm in diameter. This is great if you have decided to take on that stubborn conifer tree, as the chipper will chew it up and spit it out with ease. A chipper allows you to recycle the waste it processes, which is great for covering play, flower or walking areas.

Shredders are often used for getting rid of smaller garden waste, such as leaves, twigs, hedge cuttings and plant trimmings. A great feature about a shredder is that the waste which is shredded is cut and crushed along the grain, which results in the waste being ideal for compost heaps. The waste produced can also be used on vegetable patches or plant beds because the high nutrient levels increase healthy plant growth.

Wishing you had the best of both worlds? Well here at Helpful Hirings we also have a combined shredder and chipper machine. This is great if you want to shred your waste into compost heaps and chew the rest up into chips for a more manicured finish to your flower beds.

For a helpful and professional service that you can rely on, get all your gardening equipment and advice from helpful Hirings today. Our service and our machines will help you out with any gardening job that you are thinking of taking on. Make the right choice and come to Helpful Hirings for chipper hire Oxford.
