How to Tax a Used Truck
Friday, September 9th, 2011Under UK law, every vehicle in the United Kingdom needs to hold a valid tax disc before it can be driven on the road. Therefore, upon purchasing a new or used truck there are certain procedures that need to be taken in order for you to gain your disc. As professional retailers of trucks, the experienced team here at Malcolm Taylor Commercials have the appropriate insight to be able to help you. As such, we have compiled a guide on how to apply for a tax disc on your newly acquired vehicle.
For those of you which have bought any of the vehicles listed below, you will need to obtain a ‘Application to tax a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV)’ (V85) form;

- Trailer HGV
- Reduced Pollution Trailer HGV
- Private HGV
- Special Trailer
- Special Types Vehicles
- Reduced Pollution Special Types Vehicles

Once you have established which form you require, you will then need to locate your nearest DVLA centre. You will need to arrange a meeting, and present the following information in order to successfully claim for the tax disc of your vehicle.
Below is a list of documents you will need to present to the DVLA office;
- Vehicle Registration Certificate or New Keepers Details
- A valid Insurance Certificate
- A valid HGV Licence
